Jump-starting a car requires a set of jumper cables and the knowledge of how to do the process safely. You also need a nearby vehicle with a good battery. Both cars should be turned off before attaching the cables.

Your jumper cables will have a red cable and a black cable. Attach one end of the red cable to the dead battery's positive terminal. Place the other end of the red cable on the good battery's positive terminal. Attach the black cable to the good battery's negative terminal. Finally, attach the other end of the black cable to a metal bracket inside your engine compartment.

Have someone start the car with the good battery and let it run a couple of minutes. Now, try starting your car. You might have to wait, but it should eventually turn over. Stop by the Service Department at Valenti Subaru in Westerly, RI for a battery check.
